AMDA/ALADIN Prototype Introduction

What is it for?

This Amda extension was designed to visualize auroral images of giant planets taken from Hubble. The request options directly corresponds to your current AMDA data plotting, and the full images are visualized through the astronomers' image processor, ALADIN.

Its main features are:

  • control time limits
  • preview Hubble datas in thumbnails
  • request for further details about one dataset
  • visualize full images in Aladin tool.

What is inside?

To make it simple, this interface is a central point between three primary instances:

  1. AMDA, where you plot plasma parameters,
  2. Stsci server, from which you retrieve Hubble images and metadatas
  3. Aladin, that we use as an image processor.

The process begins with a request for hst datas, which is like "asking for all aurora images between start time and stop time for a given planet name".

  1. the tool first retrieves meta datas built from the hubble (stsci) server.
  2. filters are then applied to extract a data subset corresponding to your request.
  3. an html structure is then presented to you, which allows to have a first glance at preselected.
  4. finally, communication is established with Aladin, that will download and show the datas you selected.
