Planets under extreme stellar/solar conditions

The field of Science Case 3.4 tries to solve open questions related to the radiation and plasma exposure of the atmospheres of solar system planets and exoplanets under active young Sun and active host star conditions. In the field of Science Case 3.4 there are several general Problems/Topics and Resources which are relevant for Research:

  • Relevant physical Problems/Topics:

    • Solar/stellar parameters relevant as proxy for young Sun or host star environment (Observations, models and concepts)
    • Observations and physics of extreme solar phenomena (X-ray flares, CMEs, etc.)
    • Observations of the radiation and particle environments of stars (G, M, F, K) with different age
  • Solar/stellar planetary relations:

    • Physics of upper atmospheres (models and concepts)
    • Observation and characterization of exoplanets
    • Physics of solar/stellar plasma interaction with planetary obstacles (models and concepts)
    • Evolutionary aspects for atmospheres and water inventories etc.
